Unseen Perspectives

Unseen Perspectives by Tan Qian Wen explores the concept of amviguous observation. Rather than focusing purely on voyeurism, this series looks at how we constantly shift between watching others and being watched in our everyday lives.

Spaces like hotels, elevators, trains, cinemas, public restrooms, and even our own homes sit on a blurry line between public and private. Within these areas, we catch accidental glimpses into strangers’ lives while simultaneously exposing our own to them.

In these moments, your role is never fixed. You are not just the viewer or the target; you are constantly both. We watch others and are watched in return, usually without ever realizing it.

By distorting these familiar scenes and using unconventional visual angles, Unseen Perspectives challenges you to rethink how you interact with the world around you. If watching has become a normal, automatic part of daily life, are you actually aware when you are looking? And while you are busy observing someone else, have you already become the subject of another person’s gaze?
