Garden of Us by visual artist Alya Hatta explores the connections between bodies and nature, where ecology serves as the common grounds between London and Kuala Lumpur. Unassuming at first glance, the garden facilitates intimate interactions and conversations between individuals, and acts and an extension of what we call home, in a liminal space that exists between the public and the private, the built and natural environment. Like interpersonal relationships, the garden can only thrive with care and intention to nurture a safe home for people and plants alike.
Alya Hatta (b.1999, Malaysia) is an interdisciplinary artist based between London and Kuala Lumpur. She graduated from her BA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London (2021) and MA Painting at Royal College of Art (2023). Garden of Us runs from 5-8 October, and is held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC, Hall 1). The exhibition is a participating gallery of CIMB Artober 2023.
