3:33

Haris Rashid, one of Malaysia’s fastest rising artists, presents his solo show 3:33 this coming 4 January – 7 March 2021 at ZHAN Art | Space.

The series of work began in March 2020, which also marked the start of Malaysia first lockdown in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Set against a period of uncertainty and anxiety, in which travelling outside was heavily restricted and limited, Haris opts to travel inward into the depths of his mind and imagination. The first question his works ask is: Can we find new meaning in these unprecedented times?

In the search for meaning, Haris discovers new ways to be connected without contact. The show is both a reminder to reconnect, but at the same time, an invitation to appreciate the everyday miracles that sit before us in plain sight.

Inspired by magic and fantasy, and infused with symbols and metaphors of folklore, 3:33 is a poetic notion of our current times. Giving a nod to nature that continues to survive and evolve, Haris asks the second question: Can we evolve and adapt to the (new) nature, or are humans doomed to extinction?

3:33 represents one of Haris’ most personal spiritual journey yet in his journey to understanding the world around us, and making sense of the juxtaposition of opposites and the energies that surround us.
