Contemporary art in Malaysia has always been about challenging conventions ā from political cartoonists Ahmad Fuad Osmanās exhibition being taken down to narratives on history and construction of identity, there has been a strong base for contemporary portrayal locally.
This 15 August, join panelistsĀ Prof. Abdul Rahim Said, Founding Coach and Mentor of Young Art Entrepreneurs National Art Gallery Malaysia,Ā Peisy Ting, contemporary abstract artist andĀ Dr. Tong Gin Chee, co-founder of ZHAN ART | Space, as they discuss whatās next for contemporary art in Malaysia, freedom of expression and what it means under the ānew normalā for artists in transition. Sharmilla Ganesan, host and presenter of BFM89.9ās art show āThe Front Rowā will moderate the session.
The panel titled āMaking Sense of the āNew Normalā: Art in Transitionā serves as a prelude to contemporary abstract artist Peisy Tingās first solo show, Transcendence ā A Visual Exploration of Self.
The two complementary events support ZHAN Art | Spaceās intention to re-evaluate the notion of an artistās intent in contemporary art post-pandemic and identify whatās distinctive, varied and insular about our art scene in Malaysia and how we can shine a spotlight on these areas.
